Elected or Appointed
A couple of weeks ago we added a post that spoke about Governor Rick Scott trying to appoint a judge in a (soon to be) empty judge’s seat. There are two sides to this issue, some believe that he does not hold the power to appoint a judge, but others would beg to differ. A local defense attorney made it official earlier this week that this issue is shaping up to take action in the supreme court. Multiple candidates have already filed paperwork to run for Judge Johnson’s seat. Since Judge Johnson submitted her resignation letter on April 18 there has been a big dilemma whether Gov. Rick Scott has the right to appoint someone to her seat. “It’s the law” states Attorney Len Feuer. The power the Governor has to appoint a judge was taken away in this case because Judge Johnson submitted a letter of resignation; which means that her seat is up for anyone who wins the election. More to come soon.
