What is a DUI?

Florida DUI laws are strict.  DUI is an offense to the law, which occurs when someone is driving a vehicle under the influence of a substance which impairs one normal abilities to drive a vehicle.  This is usually proven by having blood-alcohol levels of 0.08 or higher, or the impairing of normal abilities.

Is a DUI a criminal charge?

Yes, a DUI is a criminal charge.  According to Florida DUI laws, you are breaking the law of operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or more.  That means that if your sample blood were taken, .08 percent of it would be alcohol.  It is important to know that your blood-alcohol level may legally be determined by law enforcement by a breathalyzer test.  A breathalyzer is a device that can measure alcohol concentrations in a person’s breath.  If your alcohol concentrations proves to be above the legal limit, the officer will place you under arrest.  If your blood-alcohol level is at .15 or above, you may face harsher penalties under Florida DUI law.

Will I get arrested if I get a DUI?

Yes, it is possible, also a first time DUI offense in Florida has a fine range of $500 to $1000 and $1000.00 to $2000.00 if your blood level is .15.  It is always best to contact an attorney to learn more about your particular case and circumstance, because every case is different.
