Wet Foot, Dry Foot

Washington – President Barack Obama is ending the established “wet foot, dry foot policy” that permits Cubans to enter to the United States without a visa to become permanent residents, the administration declared Thursday. “By taking this step, we are treating Cuban migrants equally as we have a tendency to treat migrants from different countries,” Obama wrote in a statement Thursday.

This policy has been around for over 20 years and has allowed for numerous Cubans to migrate to the United States. By removing the “wet foot, dry foot policy” the United States Government declared they’re now going to take into account residency requests from these Cubans within the same method different migrants are processed once they arrive into the country.
